Kennedy Krieger Institute ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT - PHILANTHROPY in Baltimore, Maryland

Overview

The Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy will work collaboratively to develop, implement and achieve strategic plans for increasing private support; provide leadership and direction for major gifts, planned giving, and the Women’s Initiative Network; be directly involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts; effectively communicate the mission and values of the Institute; have a working knowledge of current best practices in all aspects of fund raising; and collaborate with colleagues across the Institute. This position is part of the leadership team of the Philanthropy department.

Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with the Vice President, Philanthropy and Assistant Vice President, Operations to set departmental and individual fundraising, visit, and proposal goals.

  2. Collaborate with the Vice President, Philanthropy and Assistant Vice President, Operations to establish and adhere to annual operating budgets and ensure philanthropy programs are operating in a fiscally prudent and productive way.

  3. Help develop and administer policies related to fundraising and gift stewardship.

  4. Assist with the successful development and completion of capital and endowment campaigns through personal solicitations as well as leadership of the frontline fundraising team.

  5. Supervise the work of the frontline fundraising team, Women’s Initiative Network team. and planned giving director. Serve as a mentor for team membersand evaluate staff performance on an annual basis using Institute-provided management tools.

  6. Maintain a portfolio of approximately 50 donors, and cultivate, solicit, and steward major and leadership gifts.

  7. Cultivate long-term relationships with key stakeholders including Institute leadership, clinicians, and board members to encourage continued and increased funding.

  8. Work in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders to develop a portfolio of giving opportunities (cases for support) that document funding needs in terms of real program costs, how dollars impact people, actual or potential outcomes, shortfalls, and exciting philanthropic opportunities.

  9. Craft effective proposals based on target audience and present opportunities to donors that effectively match donor interests with Kennedy Krieger Institute funding needs.

  10. Set agenda for and lead regular prospect review meetings.

  11. Use donor database to input all significant interactions, inputting contact reports and other significant actions in the system as required. Track fundraising progress and activities of direct reports through donor database to support progress towards defined goals.

  12. As a member of the Philanthropy leadership team, support volunteer management structure to include committees of the board of directors, foundation board, or Institute programs.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) or other relevant advanced certification is preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Advanced degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in development with an emphasis on major and or principal gifts required, ideally within healthcare.

  • 3-5 years of fundraising management experience desired.
