WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY Student Success Librarian in Dayton, Ohio

Job Purposes: The Student Success Librarian coordinates library instruction in the English composition program, first year seminars, high-school outreach, and other subjects by designing and teaching coursework in consultation with faculty and student success employees. The position liaisons with the Division of Student Success, including the Writing Center and other student success initiatives on campus through targeted communication and participation in student orientations and student outreach activities.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

40% Coordinate English Composition and First-year Instructional Programs

  • Coordinate English Composition and First-year Instructional Programs
  • Coordinate the English composition and first-year seminars, and high school instructional
  • programs; develop program content and assessment through collaboration with faculty, subject librarians, and the Department Head including lecture materials, assignments, and in-class materials; markets program and schedules classes.
  • Create library programming directed towards first year students and faculty in collaboration with campus units.
  • Partner with the Division of Student Success, including the University Writing Center, and other student success initiatives on campus.
  • Represent the University Libraries to incoming students through open houses, in-person or virtual library orientations, and tours.
  • Serve on campus committees that support first-year and undergraduate student success efforts.

25% Library Instruction

  • Provide library instruction for various undergraduate student success initiatives and other subject areas as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design library research assignments that enhance student learning.
  • Design and teach classes and workshops to educate students on effective library research strategies, content evaluation, and other information literacy skills.
  • Conduct assessment in classes taught to gauge student learning.
  • Design research guides and other digital objects to facilitate learning by online students.
  • Participate with the Research Toolkit information literacy workshop series.
  • Provide library instruction when requested by faculty, including nights and weekends

20% Research Assistance Services

  • Research, evaluate, and organize scholarly resources for faculty on specific topics or research questions.
  • Counsel students and faculty individually regarding specific research assignments or projects.
  • Deliver library research and information service at multiple service points.
  • Provide library service when scheduled, including nights and weekends.
  • Participate in department planning, operations, and meetings.

10% Liaison to Academic Departments

  • Develop and maintains relationships with faculty and staff in assigned colleges, departments, and academic areas to effectively market and deliver library services and resources. Initiates new programs or services.
  • Communicate with academic departments regarding library resources, services, or research needs.
  • Manage the library collections in assigned subject areas by selecting appropriate library materials.
  • Monitor academic department meetings, activities, and communication for opportunities to provide library services.
  • Participate in new faculty, staff, and student orientations and other department/college activities.

5% Professional Development and Service

Participate in professional development and continuing education endeavors for professional and personal growth.
