An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Lead R&D Engr/Scientist within Honeywell UOP’s R&D Materials Characterization group located in Des Plaines, IL. This position provides a unique opportunity to analyze samples from across R&D, Pilot Plants, and commercial refineries around the world.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lead R&D Engr Scientist will join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our research and development efforts, with a specific focus on expanding our liquid chromatography (LC) capabilities in the area of biofuels, pyrolysis oils, and fermentations processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research projects and their changing analytical needs.

· Develop and optimize analytical methods for the identification and quantification of compounds.

· Develop, implement, and run new methods for the analysis of a varying pallet of biomass and pyrolysis oil streams.

· Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments, including HPLC, Mass Spec, and Ion Chromatography systems.

· Document experimental procedures, results, and observations through internal reports, executive summaries, and presentations.

· Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in Liquid Chromatography and applying to current projects.

MUST HAVE

· Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field

· 10+ years of experience with HPLC, HPLC-MS instrumentation

WE VALUE

· Previous experience leading projects to build methods and capabilities to identify components/analytes from chemical biomass upgrading, fermentation processes, carbohydrate transformations, and biofuel processing.

· Previous experience identifying products from complex matrices including chemical biomass upgrading processes, fermentation processes, and biofuel processing in both aqueous and hydrocarbon matrices.

· Prior experience using various separation and detection techniques including HPLC-RI, HPLC-UV, HPLC-CAD, HPLC-MS, ion chromatography.

· Excellent problem-solving abilities.

· Previous experience analyzing carbohydrates and carbohydrate derivatives, lignin-like molecules and derivatives from various biomass sources.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills.

· Knowledge of UOP materials and processes and associated analytical methods.

· Eagerness to get involved in hands-on work.
