About the Graduate Office

The Graduate Office within Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations supports the academic and overall student experience through all phases of ILR graduate programs, from marketing, recruitment, and admissions to onboarding, advising, and commencement. The office includes a team of five full-time professionals who focus on student needs and collaborate extensively with faculty and staff throughout the ILR School and broader university community. The Graduate Office aims to continually recruit excellent students to its programs (MILR, EMHRM, MS, PhD) and provide them with ongoing academic and support services. The Graduate Office team prioritizes building a community that values diversity and inclusion, supports student wellbeing, and utilizes effective data and tools to enhance educational outcomes. The vision of the Graduate Office is to continually improve the ILR graduate student experience by providing strong recruitment, academic, and support programs that foster an environment conducive to growth and excellence.


The Opportunity

Join our dynamic team at the ILR Graduate Office as the Graduate Admissions and Onboarding Coordinator! This pivotal role is essential in managing and optimizing graduate student enrollment, ensuring a seamless transition from prospective applicant to successful student. If you are passionate about higher education and have a knack for marketing, recruitment, and helping to create a positive student experience, this opportunity is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Marketing and Recruitment: In collaboration with team members, develop and execute innovative marketing campaigns to attract top-tier candidates. Analyze recruitment data to refine strategies and improve outreach.
  • Admissions Coordination: Manage the entire admissions process, from application review to final decision, ensuring a streamlined and efficient experience for applicants. This support piece will be performed in collaboration with team members.
  • Onboarding: Implement strategies to convert accepted applicants into enrolled students. Coordinate onboarding activities to ensure new students have a smooth start to their academic journey.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the Director of Graduate Enrollment and Student Services and collaborate with various teams to maintain effective communication channels.
  • Promotional Events: Organize and participate in promotional events, including graduate fairs and visits to feeder institutions, to enhance ILR's visibility and attract prospective students.
  • Administrative Duties: Handle administrative tasks related to admissions and onboarding, ensuring accuracy and compliance with university policies.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with industry best practices and trends.


This is a full-time Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 3:2 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement. Typical work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours. Lastly, Travel is required and expected during recruitment cycles to attend graduate fairs, and other events to recruit and new students.


What We Need

We are looking for a team member who is a good communicator, self-motivated, and organized. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associate's degree, with 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience, primarily in the areas of recruitment, admissions, and communication.
  • Have experience in working with CRM databases, such as Salesforce.
  • Have prior experience working with social media strategies (including social networking/media, web-based platforms, and using an HTML email software).
  • Possess outstanding communication skills, to communicate verbally and in writing with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrate service orientation that will contribute to outstanding customer service and a positive and productive team environment.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple projects/assignments, work under pressure and meet established deadlines.
  • Have strong attention to detail that will enable focus on logistic details to plan, organize and coordinate multiple projects, manage events and special assignments.
  • Demonstrate experience using Microsoft suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Have experience in and/or demonstrate commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Bachelor's degree with 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience, primarily in the areas of recruitment, admissions, and communication.
  • Previous experience in higher education recruitment and admissions or similar.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role
    remotely 2 days per week and on-campus 3 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
  • This position is based in Ithaca, New York. Employees who work remotely may receive
    multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside of New York State.
