  • Ensure stories have logical sequencing and structure

  • Apply Times editorial standards of accuracy, fairness, and independence

  • Identify the best tape for stories

  • Anticipate challenges in stories and proactively solve for them as well as identify creative solutions when a story/the writing isn’t working.

  • Be fluent in cutting tape with audio editing software, preferably Pro Tools, and be ready to assemble the show as needed in partnership with the show's producer

  • Fill in as editor when needed

  • Provide input into staffing decisions and assessing performance/providing feedback to staff.

  • Exercise calm under extreme pressure.

  • Invite feedback and respond to it with curiosity and flexibility, incorporating editorial notes quickly, working cooperatively and coming up with creative solutions when disagreements arise.

  • Deliver feedback with care and precision.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Significant experience working in daily audio news as an on-air host and/or editor

  • Experience in live news

  • Sound news judgment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience using audio editing software, familiarity with Pro tools an advantage
