Your new role, what's involved?

The purpose of the role is to support the Business Development team with the identification of opportunities to generate growth within the Business Rates and Valuation team, and to work closely with the Business Development Manager to provide information in relation to any prospective opportunities. The role will be heavily data-led with a good amount of research into opportunities required, along with the analytical ability to source opportunities from scratch. The role will be largely telephone based with some attendance at sales calls/meetings and will also require an element of self-generated lead sourcing.

The role would cover the following areas of Business Development:

  1. To continue to maintain and grow the body of reputational clients currently within the GL Hearn business, working with the Specialist Sector Valuers to identity opportunities and approach them to build relationships for both the 2023 and 2026 Rating Lists and beyond.

  2. To work with the team’s Valuers to identify one-off and consequential opportunities and to work with the Business Development Manager to gain instructions from suitable clients.

  3. To support the Commercial and Strategic Growth Director and Business Development Manager to provide suitable data for the approach of prospective clients and to gather information for proposals and pitches.

The role will cover the following activities:

  • Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with different teams, including those in the wider WSP business as well as the Rating team, to identify cross-selling opportunities and drive synergies to maximise business growth.

  • Market Analysis: To work with the Valuers to identify trends in the Rating List and potential clients, keeping abreast of changes in legislation, regulations, and industry developments that impact the Rating Team's business. Regularly report back to the Valuers as to progress made.

  • Marketing: To work with Marketing to ensure that all marketing material is suitable and is kept up-to-date, having great attention to detail.

  • Reporting and Analysis: Track and report on business development activities, including pipeline, conversion rates, and revenue projections, providing regular updates to the Operations Board.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Research experience; either at University or in practice.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse market trends, financial data, and industry insights to inform business strategies.

  • Relationship Building: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels, internally and externally.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced and changing environment, with the ability to adapt to evolving business priorities and market conditions.

  • Results-Oriented: Proven ability to meet and exceed business development targets, with a focus on driving revenue growth and delivering exceptional client service.

  • IT Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM systems for pipeline management and reporting.
